Molecular Sieve, known as zeolite, is a kind of microporous crystalline alumina silicate. Its basic cage construction is formed by silica and alumina tetrahedron. There are metal cations such as Na+, K+, Ca2+, Li+ and so on in the crystal lattice to balance the extra negative charge. Its unique structure allows the water of crystallization to be removed continuously after heating while the crystal cage construction unchanged, thus formed many same size cavities.

These cavities have strong adsorption ability to polar molecules(like re-adsorb water) and unsaturated molecules. Aided by strong ionic forces (electrostatic fields) and big internal surface volume close to 1'000 m2/g, molecular sieves will adsorb a considerable amount of water and other fluids. If the fluid adsorbed is with polar compound, it can be adsorbed with high loading, even at very low concentrations of the fluid. So molecular sieves can remove many gas or liquid impurities to very low levels (PPM grade or less than that).
Another feature of molecular sieve adsorbent is its ability to separate gases or liquids according to the molecular size or polarity. The molecular sieve pores distribution is very uniform. Only the things which is ordinary, linear or the diameter is less than the diameter of cavity can enter the inside of the crystal cave. While the molecular with branched chain or larger diameter can not enter but get through the adsorbent bed without being absorbed.
Molecular sieve is widely used in metallurgy, chemical industry, electronics, petrochemical, natural gas and other industry.
